In terms of public policy, several mechanisms are available to promote various forms of RE.
A model is proposed to optimize the cost of firm PV generation. The battery, a short-duration storage option, is mainly employed for diurnal storage. The hydrogen system (long-duration storage) primarily caters to inter-seasonal storage. The incorporation of long-duration storage lowers the system premium by 10%.
However, the stochastic and volatile nature of PV output makes its performance in meeting load demand inferior to that of conventional thermal power. To reliably meet the load year-round, an energy system relying solely on PV as its energy source requires the deployment of energy storage capable of storing large quantities of electricity.
Conclusion As the energy system transitions towards deep decarbonization, photovoltaic (PV) technology has emerged as the preferred choice for electricity generation in many regions due to its green and clean attributes and technological maturity.
Solar PV is powered by the sun and it is environmental friendly (Hajighorbani et al., 2015;Killi and Samanta, 2015;Mohanty et al., 2016). The use of solar PV can potentially mitigate and reduce the carbon dioxide emissions which cause the greenhouse effect in the earth atmosphere (Child et al., 2017; De Brito et al., 2013).
The exaggerated elevation in PV power output ensures that daily electricity generation from PV exceeds daily load demand, even in times of low solar resources, in that it represents an attractive alternative to battery storage .
