Contact UsWhile the electrostatic capacitor can be made to withstand high volts, the supercapacitor is confined to 2.5–2.7V. Voltages of 2.8V and higher are possible, but at a reduce service life. To get higher voltages, several supercapacitors are connected in series. Serial connection reduces the total capacitance and increases the internal resistance.
All capacitors have voltage limits. While the electrostatic capacitor can be made to withstand high volts, the supercapacitor is confined to 2.5–2.7V. Voltages of 2.8V and higher are possible, but at a reduce service life. To get higher voltages, several supercapacitors are connected in series.
The maximum capacitance that these capacitors can provide is 1 Farad. If the higher capacitance is required, the capacitors will need to be quite large, which may or may not fit into typical electronic circuits. Enter the supercapacitor.
The supercapacitor, also known as ultracapacitor or double-layer capacitor, differs from a regular capacitor in that it has very high capacitance. A capacitor stores energy by means of a static charge as opposed to an electrochemical reaction. Applying a voltage differential on the positive and negative plates charges the capacitor.
The feed- forward loop is always needed when one uses super-capacitors since the capacitor's voltage is dropping continuously as the output load draws power from the capacitors. This is different than when one uses the battery. For battery, no feed-forward is not used, since the voltage of the battery remains constant when the output draws power.
Supercapacitors are ideally suited for pulse power applications, due to the fact the energy storage is not a chemical reaction, the charge/discharge behavior of the supercapacitor is efficient. Supercapacitors are utilized as temporary energy sources in many applications where immediate power availability may be interrupted.
