Photovoltaic (PV) glass stands at the forefront of sustainable building technology, revolutionizing how we harness solar energy in modern architecture. Here in this study, we have investigated the theoretic feasibility of employing the photonic glass, a random packing of monodisperse dielectric microspheres, as the colored cover for solar energy harvesting.

The initial development and utilization of solar cells using glass, soon gained attention from countries like the United States and Japan, thereby accelerating the research, development, and application of low-iron, ultra-thin glass for solar energy purposes. Demand for solar photovoltaic glass has surged due to growing interest in green energy.

Researchers at Michigan State University (MSU) originally created the first fully transparent solar concentrator in 2014. This clear solar panel could turn virtually any glass sheet or window into a PV cell. By 2020, the researchers in the U.S. and Europe have already achieved full transparency for the solar glass.

As the world continues to prioritize sustainability and combat climate change, the role of photovoltaic glass in shaping the future of manufacturing becomes increasingly prominent. The integration of PV glass into factory infrastructure aligns with the growing emphasis on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and green building practices.
