Madrid Industrial Uninterruptible Power Supply BESS

Currently, Spain has 6.3GW of hydroelectric and 1GW of thermal storage capacity installed. In fact, the non-BESS storage capacity in Spain is higher than in any other European country. As a result, the need for BESS to integrate renewable energy sources into the electricity system is less immediate than in the UK, for example.

BESS systems have a wide range of applications in different industrial and energy sectors. The best candidates for implementing these systems in Mexico are companies with electricity bills exceeding 400,000 pesos per month (GDMTH, DIST, and DIT rates). These systems are ideal for sectors such as:

Economic savings: BESS systems can reduce electricity bills by up to 35% by optimizing consumption during peak hours and reducing demand peaks. Power backup: BESS systems can guarantee operational continuity by storing energy that can be used when the power grid is not supplying power to the customer.

The BESS system is designed to store electrical energy in batteries and manage its use efficiently. Unlike a conventional battery, a BESS system not only includes batteries, but also components such as inverters, transformers, and an EMS (Energy Management System, which is control software).

UPS is focused on providing immediate, short-term power backup during interruptions, ensuring continuous operation of critical systems for a limited duration. BESS is designed for long-term energy storage and management, supporting renewable energy integration and providing power over extended periods.

Due to the large capacity of installed hydroelectric and thermal storage systems and the resilience of the Spanish power grid, the need for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Spain has been relatively low. The lack of a clear regulatory framework for BESS has also hindered its development in Spain so far.
