Energy capacity is critical for applications like peak shaving, renewable energy storage, and emergency backup power, where sustained energy output is required.
The mobility and flexibility of the system enables novel applications and deployments where BESS previously were unused due to the non-flexible solutions. The system is modular, meaning that the energy storage capacity can be quickly adapted depending on the application case, in contrast to larger and bulkier solutions.
The system is built of two main blocks. The PCS building block, responsible for the main control of the mobile BESS. The nominal power rating of the PCS block is 225 kVA, with a maximum peak power in the peak shaving mode of 275 kW . The second block is the modular battery pack.
A result of nearly a decade of work within the IEEE on power utility communication . The origins of the standard arises from utility work within protection, control and monitoring of substations. Over the years, the standard has developed to also cover measurements, such as statistical and historical data and power quality.
• 0.25C Rate: At a 0.25C rate, the battery charges or discharges over four hours. In this scenario, a 10 MWh BESS would deliver 2.5 MW of power for four hours. This slower rate is beneficial for long-duration energy storage applications, such as storing excess renewable energy generated during off-peak times for use when demand is higher.
A 10 MWh BESS at 0.5C provides 5 MW of power for two hours. This moderate rate suits applications like load leveling and peak shaving, where a steady energy output over a longer duration is advantageous. • 0.25C Rate: At a 0.25C rate, the battery charges or discharges over four hours.
