BESS Telecom Energy Storage Project Construction Time

The landmark project, which secured the first long-term tolling agreement for a single battery energy storage system (BESS) asset in Great Britain last year, has now set a record for speedy commissioning.

Cables such as DC cable, LV cable, MV cable, communication cable and other accessories need to be sourced accordingly to ensure the project is completed on time. The degradation of BESS capacity must be considered until the project is commissioned from the date of production.

As BESS is a relatively new technology, regulations and standards are currently diverse and evolving at local, national, and international levels. There is currently not the same body of knowledge available that exists for more established installation types. Furthermore, regulatory requirements may change during the project lifecycle.

That agreement covers around half of Gresham House's BESS portfolio, which stands at around 1 GW. Battery storage market intelligence firm Modo Energy estimated the tolling arrangement to be worth GBP 56,000 ($71,584) per MW per year.
