The company intends to locate all production steps of lithium refining in one overall plant at the Guben site.
The agreement relates to the construction of Europe's first lithium hydroxide converter. The production plant for battery-grade lithium hydroxide will be built in Guben, Brandenburg, Germany. Once completed, it will produce 24,000 metric tons of lithium hydroxide annually for the batteries of 500,000 electric cars.
On Wednesday, May 11, 2022, AMG Lithium kicked off the construction of the first battery-grade lithium hydroxide refinery within the European Union with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony in Bitterfeld-Wolfen.
The production plant for battery-grade lithium hydroxide will be built in Guben, Brandenburg, Germany. Once completed, it will produce 24,000 metric tons of lithium hydroxide annually for the batteries of 500,000 electric cars. Rock Tech's project is currently at an advanced planning stage.
From 2022, lithium-ion batteries set for the European market are to be manufactured at the 23-hectare site of the insolvent photovoltaics manufacturer Solarworld. Initially with a capacity of 14 GWh, it will later grow to accommodate up to 24 GWh. This will create around 2000 jobs by 2024.
From here, AMG Lithium will supply the European battery industry with this critical raw material from the second half of 2023, while also providing an important part for efficient and competitive lithium recycling from spent batteries.
