Conclusion In summary, we proposed a heterojunction interlocked catalysis-conduction network in monolithic porous-pipe scaffold for endurable Li-S batteries. Therein the Co terminals of Co/Mo 2 C heterojunctions are interlocked to the catalytically grown CNTs.

This heterojunction interlocked catalysis-conduction network shows unique advantages for the Li 2 S n conversion ( Fig. 7 g). (1) The three-dimensional scaffold constructed by the interlocked nanoclusters and CNTs is stable and can prevent the catalyst failure during long-term cycling.

Especially, the Co side of Co/Mo 2 C heterostructure catalyzes the growth of CNTs , which leads to the cross-linked conduction network to maintain the monolithic morphology of host and avoid the coarsening of heterostructure particles. The Mo 2 C side of heterostructure is mainly in charge of the LiPSs adsorption/catalysis functions.

However the thick coverage of catalytic grains or layers degrades the porosity of the whole electrode network and therefore the permeability and loading of S-base active species. In this work, we propose a novel construction strategy of catalysis-conduction network with sufficient porosity via ligand exchange and heterojunction anchoring for LSBs.

Recently, the heterostructure hosts are emerging to address the above dilemma. These heterostructures usually integrate the triple functions of conduction, adsorption and catalysis, and their tight phase boundaries would not retard the charge transfer from conductive substrate to catalytic domains .
