Contact UsThe basic components of solar PV systems include panels, mounting equipment, DC-to-AC inverter, wiring and fuse box connections, and a utility power meter. The equipment needed for solar power may vary depending on the system, but these components are essential for all solar PV systems.
Recent policy updates have significant implications for both solar PV installers and customers. The UK government has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding renewable capacity, with solar PV expected to play a pivotal role in achieving the 70GW deployment target by 2035.
Official statistics on solar deployment indicate that as of the end of May 2025, the UK had a total of 18.9 GW of solar capacity across 1,803,000 installations. At least 43% of capacity (7,710 MW) came from ground-mounted or standalone solar installations, including the two operational solar farms accredited on Contracts for Difference (CfD).
According to Solar Energy UK, over 1.3 million UK homes now have solar panels, a figure expected to rise sharply as incentives improve. These grants can cover up to 30% of installation costs, while zero VAT on solar panels and battery storage (introduced in 2022 and extended through 2025) further reduces upfront expenses.
DESNZ analysis suggests that solar PV could support up to 35,000 direct and indirect jobs in GB, to support the solar capacity required for Clean Power by 2030.
In a report by Solar Energy UK, ground mounted solar farms are considered to represent a key part of the UK's Energy Security and Net Zero Strategy. Currently solar farms occupy less than 0.1% of the UK's land. To meet the government's net zero target, would mean solar farms would account for approximately 0.6% of UK land.
